Good $1 tacos that my wife will actually eat. Margaritas were good. The clay bowl things that they sell look awesome, but have flour in them, so I can't eat them.

Only been here one time so far, but it was very good. Service was attentive and friendly, average to above average wait time for dishes. The carne asada was my choice for entree, and it was nicely seasoned and the meat was quite tender and juicy. Would be a 4 star review if I went more often and had the same results. Good grub though overall, recommend a visit or two for sure.

I see here that people think the El Gallo Giros in Garden City and Kuna are related, so I had to chime in. Apart from the name and much of the menu, the Garden City El Gallo Giro has NOTHING to do with the El Gallo Giro in Kuna. Management/ownership is completely different, despite whatever anyone at the Garden City location tells you (and I've read elsewhere that they've previously said the two places are related-- I guess they want to pass themselves off as a more easily available version of Kuna's quality for those on the east end of the valley). Call up the Kuna location and ask the managers if you don't believe me. I don't know which place came first and therefore who's copying whom, but the Kuna location is head and shoulders above this place. The food I had in the two times I've been here (the lengua in a mocaljete and a chili verde burrito) were pale bland comparisons to Kuna. My experiences here were on par with any other Americanized Mexican place that dominates the area. The Kuna location is constantly busy for a reason. And they'll accept the Boise Weekly card (40% off of your meal) while this location won't. Avoid this place and head to Kuna. It is worth the extra driving needed.

My son and I needed to grab a quick lunch over the weekend so we stopped in here for the first time. Service was slow, the chips were salty and I thought the portions were small. Also, not much variety on the menu and there didn't seem to be a separate lunch menu. Probably won't go again.

Most authentic Mexican food you will find north of Los Angeles.

The portions were small, the service was average at best. The food was a disappointment. They appear to be trying to match the one in Kuna but they are way off on that one

I have completely lost my taste for Mexican food lately and have taken it off my approved eating list. My wife was dying to go though so I thought I would try. The ambiance is sad. Used to be a pizza hut. The waitress wasn't all that friendly either. But the food was amazing. I had one of their specialties Molcajete (drunken something). Had strips of steak that I totally expected to be hard and dry. But it was soft and tender and amazing. But for the ambiance I would have done five stars. Can't wait to go back. They had lots of authentic foods you dont see in the average mexican chain restaurant. Was a very nice change.

Went here for Cinco de mayo this past year and we ended up being there for 2 hours. They were nice enough to comp a dosh and the food was very taaty. We ended up going another week day and the service was poorer than Cinco de mayo. Only 6 tables were filled and it took them 25 minutes to take our order and they forgot one of our friends orders. All in all, food is tasty, service is bad.

One of my absolute favorite places in Boise! It's affordable, the staff is always so friendly, and service is fast. Their lunch specials are great, especially their tacos. Best Mexican street tacos in Idaho, and some killer margaritas. They cater, and have live music twice a month. If you're lucky, you might even get to hear the owner sing! I love this place!

Amazing authentic Mexican food. It tastes simply delicious and the servers are quite nice too.

This is my favorite spot for authentic Mexican street tacos! I've been coming here for years, and it's always been good. They have a huge variety of Mexican dishes and a full bar, but I think the little street tacos are the best (also super cheap). This family owned restaurant has friendly service and EXCELLENT margaritas.

I love this place but sometimes the guys on staff can be a bit bewildered. The ladies seem to be more on the ball.

I liked this place. It was weird to see this mostly authentic mexican place in the middle of Idaho. The food was really tasty and the service was good too. I liked how busy and fun the place was. I thought it was a bit pricey but it was worth it.

Have been here tons of times and have loved the service, food and especially the pitcher of margaritas! Tonight was such a disappointment. Our server was the worst we've dealt with there. She was rude and inattentive, even pretended she didn't see us walk in yet she had to walk right next to us to go into the kitchen. Too bad, this was our favorite place and we just moved closer to it.

Bring your family or bring your friends. El Gallo Giro exceeds my expectations every time I visit. The food is spot on and service is always great. This is not "tex-mex" food. This is authentic Mexican food just the way your abuela always made it!

Street tacos are good and fairly priced at 1.25,the adobado is my favorite and the carne asada is descent, salsa is weak and lacks authentic flavor, more like store bought la Victoria, bottled hot sauce selection is good...

Well looks like they must do a good business but there service sucks. They seated me at the bar gave me a menu and never came back. Can not say what the food is like I never got to order. They have a ton of staff running in circles. Someone needs to train them.

It seems a little shady to use the same name and logo as the El Gallo Giro in Kuna, when it has no relation and is not owned by the same people. The food is okay, but don't be fooled if you think this is the same restaurant.

  • Kevin W.

Yummy! Had the nachos. Best ever! Great service, and they even had diet Dr Pepper! Convenient location and lots of parking.

  • Kimberly N.

The food is not bad here. The service is so-so. But the chile verde in the lava rock bowl is delicious!!! It's not affiliated with the el Gallo giro in kuna, so it's really unfortunate they have the same name, because if you're willing to drive, I'd go to the one in kuna. If not, get the chile verde! Delicious! The rice and beans are typical. Nothing extraordinary there, but stray from the combos, because the house specialties are just, well, better.

  • Corey J.

Bad food...bad service! Don't bother. My tacos were salty with a side of steak. Nobody in the restaurant and he still couldn't pay attention.

    (1)
  • Mar B.

When you point at a menue and say you want rice and beans ala carte, that does not mean charge me for the combo meal and think I won't notice. Add that to crappy service and over an hour wait and I will never go to this location ever again. Worst experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily the one in Kuna is better.

Great food, Great service! Hot fried jalapenos! ! Loved them! Dang good margarita on the rocks, fish bowl size. The guacamole was yummy too! Big portions for the price!

Went here for lunch, and was impressed!! Was like $24 for 3 people and we each got 5 tacos and a few soft drinks. I think I liked the Asada tacos the best, although the carnitas and pollo were awesome too. I've eaten alot of authentic mexican down in Southern California, didn't think Boise would have a worthy competitor. Check it out! They have a full bar too.

If you're looking for a high-end experience, this is not it. If you're looking for good, authentic Mexican food, I would highly recommend this place. I ordered several a la carte items (pork tamale, street tacos, enchilada, and their taquitos). They were all amazing. Especially the street tacos. Their guacamole was made fresh. The server was very friendly and accommodating (we brought our 2 year old with us). So far, it's in my top two Mexican restaurants in Boise. Campos being the other.

  • D T.

Interior is cheezy with Corona banners, I ordered "street tacos" and they were not even close to being street tacos, the refried beans were not fresh nor was the rice, the employees were new and inexperienced, I will not return to this place.

  • Joy S.

I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is always top notch and the staff makes you feel like part of the family. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the price is right. It's a must go for sure.

The food was very authentic, which is hard to find around here. Service was great! Two thumbs up!

I was starved & this was the closest Mexican food restaurant to where we were. Service was ok and the food was marginal. I had the cheese enchiladas and they were below expectations. My wife had Carne Asada and it was, well, ok. I think this place is somehow associated with the El Gallo Giro in Kuna, but I love the one in Kuna and this one is just not the same caliber.

    (2)
  • Leigh Ann D.

These are NOT the same owners of the ORIGINAL El Gallo Giro in Kuna. That restaurant gets five stars... Best Mex in the Treasure Valley. This place is just not that good. I put this El Gallo Giro on par with area Chapala's - kinda bland. Doesn't seem like the sauces/salsas or tortillas are made there. For the best Mex around, I suggest making the trek to 1. El Gallo Giro in Kuna, 2. Andrade's on Overland, or 3. El Tenampa in Napma on the blvd. Or, find a nearby taco truck. They never fail!

I've been to Mexico seven times ( and not in Gringo resorts ) - I LOVE Mexican food. I give this place two thumbs up ! The tacos were GREAT in June of 2013.

They just moved up the street to 5285 Glenwood St. where there used to be a Pizza Hut. Decided to check them out finally after wondering if they were for real back in that little space in the strip mall. The family has been in business for decades and have crafted their own unique specialties. I need to go back and check those out. We were only in the mood for standards. Ceviche was ok. Nothing spesh. The torta was nicely toasted and the carnitas pork was great. The Olivia salad has an unusual grilled chicken. And the mini-chimis were a little too salty and the chicken tasted funny. I would go back again to check out their Molcajetes. I think they have a full bar too.

I think El Gallo Giro has really good tacos! I also think some of their specialty items are pretty awesome too! I just found out about this place, but now I am a big fan! It's hard not to be when the taco's are $1.00/each. They give you your first round of chips/ salsa/ bean dip for free and each additional round for $1.00. You can also order a margarita, (with actual liquor instead of a pre-mixed malt beverage like some other Mexican restaurants in town), for $4.00/ single, $16.00/ pitcher. This place is good. Good food, drinks, prices, proportions and service.

This place is definitely Idaho Mexican food but the tacos are great! The lunch special is definitely worth going out of your way for. Service is always good.

  • Lorenzo N.

I love their $1 tacos, they have 8 kinds of meat and I usually take all of them. They have many things on their menu. When you get there they usually put tortillas and salsa on your table before you order. I have been many times there and always been satisfied, today it was just a little bit stinky... But anyway is not a place where you want to bring your first date, especially because their salsa is very hot.

  • Kathy F.

The food is no good. The staff is rude. They give you chips and salsa without you asking for them and then they try to charge you for them. This is not anything like the restaurant with the same name in Kuna. The Kuna restaurant is good.

GROSS, DISGUSTING, NAAAAAAAAAAAASTYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are just minimal words to describe what we were given to eat tonight. Chili Colorado sauce is usually RED NOT BROWN! The meat was some form of grizzle boot leather that not only had no real flavor other than stale grease but it smelled more like old stale fish than beef. It hurt my teeth to try chewing through it! After the second bite I could not eat any more it was so unpalatable. So we left our plates nearly untouched. Our "waitress" who was about as cold as the ice water I had to ask twice for sat in the booth across from us to eat her dinner after dropping off our plates and NEVER bothered to check on us again. Even after several attempts to gain her attention including a loud "CAN YOU PLEASE COME HERE?". We did everything short of throwing a salt shaker at her. She would not look up at us She never asked if the "food" was OK. No drink refills, NO second rounds of beer, NO desert offered (not that we would have ordered any after the lousy dinner food) We had to walk up to the front counter to pay as we were completely ignored by the other staff. The owner? / manager? asked how everything was and I told her IT REALLY SUCKED! IT REALLY SUCKED BAD! She said "you owe $29" even after it was pointed out to her that we were hardly able to eat what was served to us! . Do not waste your time or money at this place. The area has so many other offerings of good Mexican food but NOT Gallo Giro (the fighting chicken) Yea, it is so tough, you won't be able to chew it! So there you go - LOUSY "FOOD" LOUSY "SERVICE" INCONSIDERATE OWNER / MANAGER WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD NOT GO THERE EITHER!!!!!!!!

Ehh. I'm a huge fan of their other location in Kuna. This one has the same menu, but for some reason the food just doesn't deliver. In my opinion, if you want good Mexican food suck it up and make the drive to Kuna. If you're too lazy to hike it out there then you're better off at the Casa Mexico.

  • Chase B.

My wife's parents are some of the best cooks I have been around, plus they live six months out of the year in Cabo, Mexico, and the other half in Idaho. I am only telling you this because they have an authentic taste for Mexican cuisine. We all went there and agree this is the best Mexican food in Boise. The food is authentic, the atmosphere is pleasurable, and the service is impeccable.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
